Brest is a French commune located in Brittany. It is the second largest commune in Brittany in terms of population (160,000 inhabitants) after Rennes. GreaterBrest truly stands out in the West of Brittany owing to its population of over one million inhabitants. The city of Le Ponan, commonly known as Brest, is the most densely populated in Finistere. The history of the castle of Brest is often confused with the history of Brest itself: it became a military port after the arrival of Richelieu, and developed around his arsenal until the middle of the 20th century. After the bombardments of the Second World War, during which time the historical centre was almost completely destroyed, Brest began to rebuild and develop its tertiary sector. Brest is the second most important military port in France after Toulon, and is much dominated by the maritime sector. Brest hosts the major international festival of the sea, boats and sailors. The Academy of the Sea Foundation (1752) is a striking example of Brest’s maritime history.

Brest is an important university town; there are more than 23,000 students in Brest, attracted by its renowned universities and schools as well as the quality of life offered by the city. Many meetings, conferences, and seminars are held in Brest. Brest’s “technopolis” or technohub employs approximately 4,600 people and ensures the organization of research, notably into marine sciences and technologies. Bird Office is committed to helping you find a suitable meeting room, training room, or conference room for your future business meetings.
